This delightful and informative little blue book by Irving Bush was published in 1962. During my student days this was my go to reference for all questions pertaining to trumpet playing. The fundamentals of playing the trumpet Mr. Bush addresses both comprehensively and succinctly in his book. Each sentence is a lesson in itself.
I particularly like his concept of 'controlled relaxation' which is the balance point between tension and non tension. This reminds me of the Buddhist principle of 'neti neti' or neither this nor that. Gautam the Buddha discovered this principle while hearing a musician tuning his guitar. Too loose and the string wouldn't sound, too tight and the string broke. Food for thought.
