The Sunday Times top ten bestselling story of one girl's choice between family honour and personal happiness, from the publishers of UGLY. When she was fourteen, Jasvinder Sanghera was shown a photo of the man chosen to be her husband. She was terrified. She'd witnessed the torment her sisters endured in their arranged marriages, so she ran away from home, grief-stricken when her parents disowned her. Shame is the heart-rending true story of a young girl's attempt to escape from a cruel, claustrophobic world where family honour mattered more than anything – sometimes more than life itself. Jasvinder's story is one of terrible oppression, a harrowing struggle against a punitive code of honour – and, finally, triumph over adversity.

I just finish readin this book which I bought. 2 years ago but forgotten about until I come across while doing some cleaning. I feel sad that such culture still exist despite of the modernization. Jasvinder indeed able to make me sunk into her situation & even make me wonder whether would I be as strong as her should I fall into the same situation. The book is an eye opener to all of us & perhaps its time to talk & discuss about it openly. Awareness is indeed crucial & if we keep on denying then there will forever victims like Robina. Cheers to you Jasvinder and am looking forward to read your other book. Keep on writing..
