Bruce Joyce and Beverly Showers lead staff development activities in Richmond County, Georgia that focused on the models of teaching and peer coaching. What an impact these authors/researchers/teachers had on my teaching and administrative techniques! Additionally, one of my professors at Augusta State University (now Georgia Regents University) used Joyce/Showers book, Models of Teaching, as our text for a teaching strategies course. Made a believer out of me.
Why is that when education finds something that really works and makes a difference, educations abandons what works for something untested and new? One of our friend's child has some learning problems and the after school program he is enrolled to help with learning problems is using these same strategies and models that Joyce and Showers wrote about in 1983.
What are Showers and Joyce up to these days?
