Recently explored by Michael Palin and by Richard Bangs, Macedonia is a treasure trove of outdoor adventures, folk festivals, and picturesque scenery. Still the only English travel guide to the country, this second edition has been completely updated to keep up with the advances in this former Yugoslavian territory that has enjoyed independence for over a decade. Great book for travel, and understanding the flora, fauna, culture, and society of the region. This is a book about the "real" Macedonia and the dynamic region it encompasses. If you are going to the real Macedonia then get this book! Thammy did a great job. However, it is not the end all be all of the region, but it is a great general overview of this beautiful country. I am biased, but the book fits.
This is by far the best and most comprehensive guidebook on the Republic of Macedonia. Evans includes up to date and practical information about places to stay and visit as well as useful and interesting background information. This book serves well as a guide, because it gives enough information to provide context to your journey, but not so much that you feel like you know everything you need to know and no longer need to visit! If you are planning on visiting the beautiful Republic of Macedonia, this book is a must.
