I reviewed this book on Amazon and have written about it in several other places, so I will be brief here. It is one of the most important books in American education. If you are in any way involved with the teaching of reading and you have not read this book, then you are just faking it.
First of all, Flesch was extremely smart and an excellent stylist. He wrote his first Johnny book 25 years before this and it was a huge bestseller. I think it is fair to say he knew as much about reading as anybody else on the planet. Furthermore, this book is full of wonderful anecdotes, quotations, and scholarly research. Read this book and Flesch will make you an expert on reading.
