About the author (2008)

Hellander graduated with a degree in Ancient, Byzantine and Modern Greek. He taught Modern Greek and trained interpreters and translators for 13 years, before becoming a travel writer.

Clark was born into a Greek-American community. His Greek roots go back to the village of Karavostamo on the Aegean island of Ikaria, home of his maternal grandparents. When not travelling to Greece, he teaches English to international students in San Francisco and Berkeley, California.
