I really enjoyed this book from the moment I looked at the jacket, even though it is so long ago that I read it. It was really inspiring, and was lucid, like the kind of storys a child will tell, when they go off towards a wavy line of truth and dare looking out a window,of what one might like to believe versus what is the truth of the situation. It is comparable to bit of insanity, when people aren't quite sure of what is possessed by one, but know on some sublime level, it is no joke. With Kelsey Kirkland, it was her gift for dance, and having been able to dance with Balanchine was more of the awakening of her deep desire to dance as though for nothing else but what the spirit desires. I could not keep myself from turning page after page, between serious rifts with parents, life, and such, and from being able to seriously detail and determine how she would be able to stave off lifes limits and still be able to breathe as a ballerina was really incredible. Dancers have many personal hurdles, including bulimia, starvation, perfect appearance, small breasts, personal choices, there are many sacrifices that go into being Ballenchine Ballerina, and Gelsey Kirkland's book is a true gift. I would recommend it highly for any body that is considering going into that particular direction.
