Dark Embers at DawnCap McKenna has built himself a respectable new life in the foothills of the Rockies with the help of J Stuart Reynolds. One day McKenna comes upon a mixed-breed infant, and takes the baby with him. A Cheyenne woman, alone and terrified, comes to claim the baby. Cap helps locate the father, a black enlisted man. Soon afterwards, now-deceased J. Stuart Reynold's two teenaged children appear at Cap's homestead just ahead of their pursuers. What's happening to Cap's respectable and well-ordered new life? |
