"You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love." -Henry Drummond

What is the greatest thing in the world? Answers to that question may vary greatly from one person to the next. However, for the Christian, what is the greatest thing in the world?

Evangelical Christians have tended to place emphasis on faith, as it is essential for salvation. But for the Christian, for the person who already knows the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour, what is the greatest thing in the world?

In short compass, Henry Drummond takes us to what he considers the core of Christianity, to "Christianity at its source", as he puts it - namely 1 Corinthians 13. There we do not find that faith is the greatest, but love ... and the supreme work to which Christians need to address themselves in this world, is to learn love.

Life is full of opportunities for learning to love. Every man and woman, every day, has a thousand of them, but do we take advantage of them? May this publication inspire and enthuse us to do so.

Drummond asserts that godly love has nine ingredients: patience, kindness, generosity, humility, courtesy, unselfishness, a good temper, guilelessness, and sincerity. Just as Drummond's contemporary readers did, clergy and laypersons alike still have a fondness for Drummond's edifying words.

The Greatest Thing in the World embodies its contents, sharing love's wisdom with warmth and honesty.
