The 178-page book of mine, which I published in the City of Van in 1996, which is a social research based upon the reports of witnesses, further increases the curiosity and interest concerning the living being or beings known as the ‘Monster of Lake Van’, rather than fully quenching the curiosity thereabout and interest therein, for although the ‘Monster of Lake Van’ does not reveal itself easily and frequently, it really exists and maintains its mystery.
In fact, although there are some people that have witnessed living beings that have been living in Lake Van for a long time, which are shortly called ‘Monsters’ due to their immense size, but which have never hurt anyone so far, their reports on what they witnessed have not been taken very seriously with focus on opposite views therein.
Since no photographs or video films had been shot thereof until recently, the concerned scientists have overlooked the expressions of the eyewitnesses saying that only a species of fish named ‘Pearl Mullet’ can live in Lake Van, which is the fourth largest lake and the largest soda lake of the world.
If there have existed gigantic creatures in Lake Van since the Age of the Urartians, it could be said that the history of the ‘Monster of Lake Van’, which is evidenced by the similar reports of the eyewitnesses, is older than that of the ‘Loch Ness Monster’, which is the most famous of the lake monsters dating back to 1400 years ago.
Compared with the 1400-year-long mystery of the immense living creatures that were spotted only when they came – although rarely - up to the surface of Loch Ness, the depth of which ranges from 214 to 296 m, it is within probability that gigantic creatures have existed up to present - reserving their mystery ever since even more ancient ages - in Lake Van, the deepest place whereof is twice as deep as ‘Loch Ness’.
Questions may occur in minds of many as to the features of these colossal living beings reported having been witnessed in such manner as if the acceptance of the existence of the witnessed were tried to be linked to the condition of giving satisfactory replies to these questions.
