About the author (2003)

Laurence Chalip is a senior lecturer with the Faculty of Business and Hotel Management at Griffith University's Gold Coast Campus in Queensland, Australia. He has worked in New Zealand, Korea, Australia, and the USA in sport as an administrator, coach, and researcher. He was a member of the International Anthropology Project at the Los Angeles Olympic Games and an executive member of the Seoul Organizing Committee for Olympic Cultural Performance and Research. He has held faculty positions at the University of Chicago, the University of Waikato, and the University of Maryland, where he remains an adjunct member of the graduate faculty. He twice served as a lecturer for the International Olympic Academy in Greece.
