About the author (1999)

Writer Rafael Azcona was born in Logrono, Spain on October 24, 1926. He wrote for humor magazines before gaining recognition with the film script based on his novel El Pisito. He was the scriptwriter for the film Belle Époque, which won the 1993 Academy Award for best foreign film. He won six Spanish Goya film awards, including one for lifetime achievement in 1998, the National Cinema Award in 1982, and the Spanish Fine Arts Gold Medal in 1994. He died of lung cancer on March 23, 2008.
