This book was given to me by my grandparents when I was 10 years old. Ever since then I believe this is a proper portrayal of Crazy Horse. The line "Crazy Horse! Crazy Horse!" during the Battle of the Little Big Horn allows me to feel that I'm riding along with Crazy Horse during the battle. READ THIS BOOK!!

Compelling, enlightening and ultimately heartbreaking story of an unjustly demonized Native American. Although some people had a hard time getting through the wordiness of Mari's writing style I would push on to the end to get the full impact of a story worth relearning. I realized all I knew of Crazy Horse while growing up was negative propaganda from the government that was passed on through the school system. I stumbled onto Mari's book after reading Win Blevins book Stone Song also about Crazy Horse. Old Jules by Mari is another must read.

Mari Sandoz beautifully depicted the life of the elusive Crazy Horse in a story told from the Indian point of view. I appreciated her sympathetic viewpoint and enjoyed her language and storytelling ability. Read full review
