About the author (2002)

Arthur William Bell III was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on June 17, 1945. At the age of 13, he became a licensed amateur radio operator. He was an Air Force medic during the Vietnam War and later a disc jockey for an English-language station in Okinawa. He enrolled as an engineering major at the University of Maryland but dropped out to return to radio. His Coast to Coast show was syndicated and broadcast from 1989 to 2003. It was followed by a program called Midnight in the Desert, which ended in 2015. He received the Snuffed Candle Award from the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry in 1998. He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2008. He wrote several books including The Quickening: Today's Trends, Tomorrow's World and The Art of Talk. He and Whitley Strieber wrote The Coming Global Superstorm, which was adapted into the movie The Day After Tomorrow starring Dennis Quaid. Bell died on April 13, 2018 at the age of 72. Brad Steiger was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on February 19,1936. Steiger's first published articles on the unexplained appeared in 1956, and he has now written more than 2,000 articles with paranormal themes. Also in 1956, Steiger began publishing short stories of mystery, fantasy, and science fiction in a wide variety of magazines, including Alfred Hitchcock's, The Saint, Trapped, and Fantastic. Among his novels are The Hypnotist, The Chindi, Alien Rapture: The Chosen. From 1970-'73, his weekly newspaper column, The Strange World of Brad Steiger, was carried domestically in over 80 newspapers and overseas from Bombay to Tokyo. In 1974 Steiger was honored in San Francisco, with The Genie, for Metaphysical Writer of the Year. In 1977 he was awarded the Dani, for Services to Humanity in Philadelphia. He was inducted into the Hypnosis Hall of Fame in 1987, and in 1996 he won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the National UFOand Unexplained Phenomena Conference in Minneapolis. Steiger has appeared on television with the likes of Ted Koppel, Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw. He has gueted on radio shows and been interviewed for magazine articles. In 1977, Steiger's bestselling biography of the great silent screen lover Valentino was made into a motion picture that same year, Steiger co-scripted the documentary film Unknown Powers, with Jack Palance as narrator, and winner of the Film Advisory Board's Award of Excellence for 1978. He is the author/coauthor of 154 books with over 17 million copies in print.
