William Eggleston, Paris
The work ofWilliam Eggleston is recognized for its role in the elevation of colour photography to art form back in the 1970s. Considered one of the most important contemporary American photographers today, he broke away from conventions to capture fleeting aspects of ordinary life, seizing his subjects from unusual angles, transforming the everyday world into something either poetic or troubling. His pictures isolate elements, focus on details, capture parts of objects and people that are barely in the frame, thereby giving new meaning to a seemingly mundane reality. His subjects, the snapshot quality of his images and his audacious use of colour have become the distinctive features of his work. This book, published on the occasion of an Eggleston exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour lart contemporain in Paris.
