This novelization of a silent serial has everything you could want in a film: A beautiful but plucky heroine; a fatherly scientist; a lost treasure; a devil-worshipping cult led by a cyclops; a hunchback; a protagonist with unlikely hypnotism skills; and a kidnapping, fist fight, or near-death cliffhanger in every chapter. Kind of exhausting to read, though.
Reeve is best known for his stories of Craig Kennedy, Scientific Detective, and Jones appears to have been a prolific author on astrology and other occult topics.
