I looked into many books on game design before picking this one up. Most of them were focused on theory and not practical application. This book teaches you game design techniques, terminology, and planning. Would give the book five stars, but a few of the sections ramble on about game concepts that any gamer will be familiar with.
Bottom line, best overall book on practical game design.
