About the author (2016)

John E. Semonche taught constitutional history for decades at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With a PhD from Northwestern and a law degree from Duke, Semonche specialized in the history of the United States Supreme Court. His past books include Censoring Sex: A Historical Journey Through American Media; Keeping the Faith: A Cultural History of the U.S. Supreme Court; Religion & Constitutional Government in the United States; and Charting the Future: The Supreme Court Responds to a Changing Society, 1890-1920.
