At each main entry a concise definition of the meaning shared by the synonyms - a thesaurus innovation - takes the guesswork and error out of word selection; word usage is further clarified by a brief illustration of the main entry word used in context; simple alphabetical organization throughout eliminates the tedious problems of hunting through and index several times and makes word-finding fast and easy; thousands of antonyms, related words (near synonyms), contrasted words (near antonyms), and idioms provide additional up-to-date information and guidance; the words are drawn from the unparalleled Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged, and the selection offered ultimately rests on the authority of the massive Merriam-Webster word files, the largest collection of evidence about contemporary English language usage.
