Highly stylized illustrations accompany a traditional retelling of this folk tale. Slightly longer than the typical picture book, this is a complete story that will hold the attention of young people and remain a fond memory as they get older.

Author and illustrator Steven Kellogg retells this classic tall tale of Paul Bunyan with clever humor throughout the story as we learn about a snow colored ox named Babe, a colossal flapjack griddle, a popcorn blizzard, the creation of the St. Lawrence River, the Great Lakes, and even the Grand Canyon. Kellogg’s illustrations illuminate the message of this humorous tale as amazing hand drawn pictures support the narrative of the story. Vibrant colors are used throughout the story, but more importantly the illustrations that fill the pages of the book bringing richness to the reader’s eye. The details on the pages develop the exaggerated story even more with the realistic hand drawn pictures.
