The plot is quite novel as a children's story that once you read it, it's hard to be forgotten for your entire life.
Peter Pan was my first love. I never saw the Disney cartoon because I knew that was not my Peter. The closest thing that has come close to the magic of the Neverland is the 2003 film starring Jeremy Sumpter. That is the Peter I know. My son's name is Peter and my daughter is Jane Moira and I call them my Darlings. Barre wrote the essence of childhood in this beautiful tale of Peter and his first mother...or was she? Don't ask him, he surely won't remember. The whimsical fancy caught my heart at a young age: Smee the vicious pirate that couldn't help but be loved, the Never-bird who never failed to be the truest mother of the story, Slightly the boy who so wanted a mother he believed he remembered her laugh. Of course, there's the boy who is "youth and joy. A little bird who has broken out of its shell." He is everything that I see in the laughter of my children. I long ago gave him my hidden kiss. Perhaps a review should contain literary analysis and criticisms. I suppose this is more of a thank-you letter to the man who made youth and joy and little boy made for a little girl to fall in love with at the age of four until the age of 'far more than twenty'. Peter, FOREVER.
