In the most distressing suspense so that at length no man may know what the law is, or whe ther any effectual remedy can be obtained in the clearest case. It may truly be said, therefore, that, as far as due consideration will permit, promptitude of decision is of the utmost import 'ance in this Court of ultimate appeal.
