I have known and worked with a number of people who personally knew and worked with Walt Disney. Much of the "Walt" I read about in this book had NO bearing or resemblance to the Walt that was always described to me by those who knew him.
I had the pleasure of personally knowing Tommie Wilck for a number of years, Tommie was Walt's last secretary. She adored the man and couldn't say more positive things about him. The most negative thing I ever heard her say about Walt was that he could be impatient... especially when he was excited about something. She also said he'd not accept anything but the best efforts of his staff and had no problems "advising" them of what he expected. Personally, I find no fault in that.
I can't say how accurate the information in this book may be. I do suspect some of the information is colored by rumor, interviews with old, bitter associates and straight urban legends. Sometimes, I got the impression the author may be going out of his way to depict Walt in a different-from-usual light, perhaps to spark some controversy and interest in his book? There's no way to know, for sure. It was more of a "gut feeling" I had. I can't say I'd recommend this book. It was different. It was interesting. But, it was not particularly pleasant to read. One man's opinion.
