Though this work seems to have been maligned extensively online by those who prefer more exotic interpretations of (read wishful thinking about) Melungeon genealogy, it carries the weight of true scholarship. Elder defines the term "Melungeon" as it was traditionally and historically known, and proceeds to demonstrate the historical origins of the Melungeons by solid, documented, and entirely traceable genealogical research. No "maybes," "perhapses," "it seems likelys," or "could it have beens" here. A must for anyone interested in Melungeon research.
