This is the first part of a two-volume defense of the traditional (Byzantine) text of the Gospels, employing text-critical argumentation by Dean John Burgon arranged and supplemented by Edward Miller. Although Burgon is sometimes considered an arch-conservative firebrand, his analysis is well-organized and filled with cogent observations, and at times the reader may feel sympathy with the sense of outrage and frustration that sometimes colors Burgon's sentences. This is to be read along with its companion-book, "Causes of Corruption."
