The Final Journey
Alice is eleven years old, and it is wartime. She is on a train with no seats, no lights, no sanitary facilities. Her parents and her grandmother are missing, and Alice doesn't know where she is going. Maybe she will get to play outside again, maybe she will see her parents. But as the train rolls on, Alice begins to realize that just when you think things can't possibly get any worse, they do.

The Final Journey tells the story of Alice, a young Jewish girl forced out of hiding and loaded into a railcar with her grandparents destined for Auschwitz. Along the way, she is forced to come to grips with death, destruction, and the realization that she may herself be destined for the same outcome. This book would be an excellent read for mature audiences, lending itself to exploring the Holocaust through a young girl's perspective and discussing the realistic, yet heart wrenching end Alice faces.
