There are four editions of the very unauthorized 'L. Ron Hubbard, Messiah or Madman?' The first, 1987 hardbound, has a simple black and yellow "emergency cover," that was substituted for the intended original cover - The original cover featured an erupting volcano, with L. Ron Hubbard's head popping out the top. This first edition, through necessity, was rushed to print.
The 2nd edition 1992 (paperback, with red and orange cover) was revised and updated and expanded; yet, once again, it came under attack from the relentless cult of Scientology, and was rushed to print, again.
The 3rd edition 1996 (hardbound, with red and orange cover), was further revised and expanded, with a new Index, and numerous new, and lengthy, footnotes.
And the 4th edition 2005, in Russian, hardbound, was published in Moscow.
Highly recommended.
One chapter in 'L. Ron Hubbard, Messiah or Madman', is titled, 'The Brainwashing Manual'. It briefly examines a strange manual that some think became the 'blueprint' for L. Ron Hubbard's Scientology movement.
It was Hubbard who called this text, 'The Brainwashing Manual', and he who implemented - "gradiently" - its ideas and practices on unsuspecting Scientologists, and on others.
A 2001 book length manuscript, that further explores its many parallels with organized Scientology, can be found by doing a search on Brian Ambry, Brainwashing Parallels.
