This is a traditional tale which comes from the Ashanti in Africa. Anansi is the name of a spider who embarks on a long journey. Along the way he gets lost, falls into a river, is eaten by a fish, and carried off by a falcon. His six sons all play a part in saving him, and as a reward, a glowing ball of light is shared with every one of them and placed in the sky for all to see—the moon. The illustrations are very bold and abstract, with sharp angles and bright colors. The story and illustrations are simple and the tale sends a good message: by working together, a family can succeed and get through tough times.

Of all of the children's books I was read as a child, this is one of the most memorable. A storyteller came and read the story aloud to a group of us in the auditorium of my Elementary School and it was truly captivating.
No one is too young to begin learning about other cultures, even if it's accomplished through getting a taste of their rich cultural heritage.
I have always loved this book, and remember the feelings it gave me as a child even though I am now a college student.
