As the other review states it is a historical survey of how the surnames came about with lots of documentation rather than generalizations as so many books give. It was fascinating! The later parts of the alphabet seemed more sparse, which makes it seem as though the authors were tired of it at that point but it may be that those names just aren't used as much. I wish it had said. I have to "assume" the latter just because the book seems so well researched.
