For a serious Evanagelical preacher in the English language, the Expositor's Greek Testament is a "must have". For many years, it has been available only in print, and only at an unacceptably high price: last time I tried to find a copy, it was over $200, used, on ebay.
The quality is not utterly consistent, as you might expect; but with minor exceptions, it's more than very good. The volume on the Gospels, for example, is written by A. B. Bruce ("The Training of the Twelve"), and is excellent -- his "Mark" is probably as good as anything out there other than C. E. B. Cranfield's "Mark", in the Cambridge New Testament Series.
This one is worth using -- and passing on to the new generation. It works best for those who are able to use the Greek text. But even without that, it is one commentary you have to have read before you can be comfortable that you know the ins and outs of the text, and any possible pitfalls in interpretation.
Now it's free! Google is a real blessing!
