Parallels of latitude diminish in size as they approach the poles. The most remarkable parallels are the Tropic of Cancer, the Tropic of Capricorn, the Arctic Circle, and the Antarctic Circle. The Tropic of Cancer is about 234 degrees north of the equator, and the Tropic of Capricorn is about 234 degrees south of it.
