Tawes is many things: a quaint fishing village, an island with a long and often violent history, a place of secrets, an ancient Indian burial ground. For Buck Davis, it is also a crime scene. Returning to his boyhood home as Chief of Police, he's faced with a vicious murder, a mysterious drowning, and the islanders' disturbing belief in an old Nanticoke curse. Equally unsettling are his feelings for the victim's daughter. Smart and sexy, Native American Abbie Night Horse has him tied in knots both on the case and off. But as an outsider, she will never understand the dangerous undercurrents and intricate relationships of the isolated island community. In her demands for justice, her belief in love, Abbie discounts a truth that could destroy her life: on Tawes, nothing is more powerful than blood ties.

Set in DelMarVa -- so I read it. Attempts at dialect, not so good. Too many loose ends at the conclusion. Author's historical romances, set in Delaware, are better. Read full review
