Noah Locke is a smart young man but not school smart. He is a second world war veteran. His only brother is in prison. His parents are no more. He wanders and makes a living out of some odd jobs he does on the way. He loves fishing and he has got a natural talent for fishing. He meets Hooke Moore at a lake and he advises him to go to the "Valley of Light" in Carolina and he also tells him about a bass that is 15 feet long and that he was not able to catch it because he was not too good for it. Noah decides to go to that village and he starts liking the place and he wants to participate in the fishing race and also catch the bass that Hooke Moore talked about.
