About the author (2004)

Paul Karr (chapters 2, 3, 11-13, and appendix) is also the author of "Frommer's Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island; Frommer's Portable Maine Coast; Frommer's Vermont, New Hampshire & Maine" and "Frommer's Canada." He has edited Frommer's guides to The Bahamas, Jamaica, London, Paris, San Antonio, and San Francisco; edited and updated Irreverent Guides to Rome, Vancouver, and Seattle; and authored "Vancouver & Victoria For Dummies."

Herbert Bailey Livesey (chapters 8-10) is a native New Yorker and a former NYU administrator. After leaving his career in higher education, he worked briefly as an artist before devoting himself to writing full time. He is the author of several travel guides, nine books on education and sociology, and a novel.

Marie Morris (chapters 4 and 5) is a native New Yorker and a graduate of Harvard, where she studied history. She has worked for the "New York Times, Boston" magazine, and the "Boston Herald," and is also the author of "Frommer's Boston," She lives in Boston.
