A work of popular science packed with fascinating detail about the lives of fishes. It does not get lost in scientific jargon and is written in a gently ironic and occasionally humorous style that is engaging. Fishes, fishing and eating fish are all clearly favourite pursuits of the author. While much of the book is descriptive, the author's enthusiasms are not hidden. And much of what he writes is prescient particularly about the dangers of commercial overfishing and the need for consumers to start eating some of the less well known fish species. A good and interesting read in a small compass. Find it if you can.
