This has to be one of the most comprehensive, well-cited, concise, and no-bull books on stretching out there. It goes just deep enough that a total laymen to physiology could come to an understanding about the more technical descriptions of collagen, muscle sarcomeres, etc rather than confuse them, and without leaving a physiology-educated reader to doubt the book's integrity.
At the end is an excellent reference of over 200 stretches with diagrams.
My favourite chapters were those that gave solid and supported arguments about stretching pain (not a good thing!) and warming up the muscles, and the psychology of stretching (team vs private, mainly),
Contractile Components of Muscle
Connective Tissue as a Limiting Factor of Flexibility
Mechanical and Dynamic Properties of Soft Tissues
