As a native Texan, I found this book to be a fascinating read. It provides a vivid description of characters that both make up the history and lore of Texas. Although I'm not sure the author intended it this way, I came away with a stronger affection for the state. I know these men were imperfect in many ways, but the book paints an irresistible picture of persons who did extraordinary things - things that are unique to not only Texas, but to America. I recommend the book to anyone who has Texas blood throwing flowing through their veins, has ever lived in, or has any interest in, the state. It's a one-of-a-kind story, to be sure.
