Great reading. Especially for anyone interested in the civil war. Fremantle's journal is detailed without rambling. There are no gaps. Every day has an entry, from the Mexican - Texas border, through Louisiana, Misissippi & on to Getysburg where he camped with Lee & Longstreet then on to New York where he observed the "Draft Riots" eventually boarding a ship there heading back home to England. Clear, unbiased, report of actual events, attitudes & beliefs of the people of this terrible struggle.
