I have sought to include in this book the chief recent decisions and Acts relating to Masters and Servants. The statutory and case law is of great bulk, and is rapidly increasing; and my chief desire has been to make it readily accessible. Though many of the statutes are of consider able length, they have, with few exceptions, been printed in full; no lawyer would care much for them in an abridged form. The dates are appended to the authorities; the opinion of many lawyers and my own experience lead me to believe that this may be useful. From several excellent works in English, Scotch, and American legal literature, I have received assistance; but I have deviated in some respects from the plans followed in them. The law of Master and Servant has been peculiarly affected by social changes. Much that was once of 'great consequence has become unimportant, if not obsolete, and I have been at.
