L'étoile et la francisque: les institutions juives sous Vichy

Front Cover
Cerf, 1990 - History - 301 pages
Analyzes the activities of the Consistoire Central des Israélites de France during the Holocaust. From 1933 it organized support for German Jewish immigrants and condemned Nazi antisemitism. During the Nazi occupation, the Consistoire witnessed the expulsion of the Jews from Alsace-Lorraine in July 1940, and began opposing Vichy's antisemitic legislation. Describes CCIF protests to Pétain and Vallat, relations with the UGIF, and efforts to save Jews from persecution (e.g. at Gurs and other camps) and deportation.
