“Introduction to Forensic Nursing and Indian Laws” is a meticulously crafted resource that seamlessly integrates the disciplines of forensic science, nursing, and law. This book is tailored to meet the needs of students, healthcare professionals, and legal practitioners aiming to understand the role of forensic nursing in the Indian legal and healthcare systems. Structured into five comprehensive chapters, the book begins by defining forensic science and outlining its historical significance and application in medical contexts. It further addresses the pressing issues of violence and sexual abuse, elucidating their epidemiology and data sources. The core of the book is dedicated to forensic nursing—its evolution, scope, and ethical considerations—and highlights the multifaceted roles of nurses in various forensic scenarios. Detailed discussions on the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and State Nursing Council (SNC) Acts provide a regulatory backdrop for practice. A key feature of the book is its focus on the forensic team, delineating the roles of its members and emphasising the nurse’s contributions to evidence preservation and victim care. It comprehensively covers physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and legal aspects of nursing care for victims of violence, along with nurses’ responsibilities as witnesses and in death referrals. The final chapters offer a primer on the Indian Constitution, judicial hierarchy, and essential legal frameworks like the IPC, ICPC, and POSCO Act. These sections equip readers with a foundational understanding of Indian laws relevant to forensic nursing. This book stands as an essential reference, fostering interdisciplinary knowledge and enhancing the professional competence of its readers in both healthcare and legal domains.
