GET THIS BOOK. If not for yourself, then get it for your children or a friends children. Make sure you get the "add-on" pack. Amazon sells it separately. Book stores often only sell the bundled book and add-on pack; which contains items that allow you to experiment with the concepts as you learn them.

I can't even count how many times I've given my copy of this book away and then gone to buy myself a new one. It always starts out the same; in casual conversation someone mentions "I hate math" or "I'm not good at math". Boom! I tell them a little bit about this book and before I know it, I am handing over my copy so that they can experience the profound beauty in our everyday world that they have been missing. Yes, believe it or not, it's math that illuminates that beauty. Seriously.

Dr. Starbird, with his child like curiosity, shares his love for math with us by focusing our attention on normal everyday experiences and without you even realizing it ushers us through mathematical concepts that you never thought you would be interested in.

I'm not a big fan of math textbooks, but this is a brilliantly written text that uses humor while using understandable ways of explaining things. I am a student currently using this book for my Discrete Math class, and it is a wonderful book. The lessons are easy to understand and explain thoroughly. The problems are challenging at times and hold jokes within them a lot as well. This is a spectacular book compared to other textbooks, and I recommend it for using in class or learning by yourself.
