Countless newspapers give the account of Johann Hoch, the bigamist murderer who was hanged in 1906. And this book also provides an account. However, the facts are confused in many of the articles, perhaps because it was such a sensational story and there were so many details. But many stories say that Hoch admitted to taking the name of the woman in Wheeling, WV. He said he took her name but had not married her - but he had married her! Her name was Caroline HOCH, a widow. She was originally Caroline MILLER and she married Adoplph HOCH in Wheeling, Ohio County, WV in 1885. The marriage record is at the county courthouse. Don't know what happened to Adolph but the courthouse has the record of the marriage of Caroline HOCH, who married JACOB HUFF in 1895 (April 18). So she died as Mrs. Caroline Huff and she is buried at Redmen's cemetery in Wheeling.
