This history of the events leading up to the removal of the Cherokees from their homeland is fascinating. Some may find it too detailed but the detail is necessary to get the full story. The account "tells it like it was" and doesn't candy coat the peoples actions. There are mistakes and atrocities on both sides. However, the main picture shows the greed of the Europeans and how their greed poisoned and destroyed a people. Even though most of the Cherokees adopted the "White man's way," it still was not enough, they were still less than human in the Euro's eyes. You will enjoy the read as well as twist your guts over what was done.

As a black Share Croppers Daughter from the back woods who was told that my favorite pass time other than fishing was reading, about the history of people and their culture. I am now 61 and have met people who understand that hating them "Dam Savages" was something that we were taught in our all black School of the lat 1950s. I was blessed to attend Catholic school I thought. I can not even remember mention of the name Jesus. What I do remember are westerns, General G Custard and the savages that Murdered him and all the nice white people. I moved out west and had a fit because we lived in the Chief Joesph School community I, I had plan to get transferred out, I could not allow my baby to attend school with savages. I walked in the school and there was this over sized portrait with the savage himself. What I read in the brief caption below the portrait gave my brain a vapor lock. http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Chief_Joseph How could one sell land they did own? was so eye opening for me. What a sadness still to this day. No one should be in this world and kept this dumb, as I was. I have stood on the native American Reservation and seen the poverty of their people which is equal to that which is less or just as bad as a share croppers Jim Crow. My heart go out to the chicken that came home to root in the bombing of the world trade building, the Kansas City Timothy McVeigh bombing, the cook school shoot and still the white can not see their own hand writing on their on walls. the white man is blind by greed. The eating of his own hand by his children is a form of justice that white c children do not deserve. Black youth killing each other for food and clothing basic human rights, they like me don't even have the slight idea why, but your children do and I can not even be happy about it because it is children and yet, I see justice in what you do to each other. I had to put your book down for the pride in a people that still have to fight with the same government to this day about the pipe line that will mare their land. The Cherokee Dad as a military man who had to fight for his Cherokee daughter? Evelyn Murray 503 875-9200 your book is it another bunch of made up words?
