An Early Start: Second Language at Primary SchoolMichael Clyne This book presents an evaluation of several second language learning programs in Victorian primary schools, which commenced as the result of departmental policy to introduce a second language program in primary schools in the early 1980s. The language chosen was German. The authors evaluate the various programs and cover the development of the four skills in German, the assessment of the different models, the effects of starting at different ages between 6 and 9, the influence of the children's attitudes, the effect of the German program on other subjects, and the impact of the program on children from German-speaking families. |
