I purchased this book in Wisconsin 6 years ago and continue to use it in Oregon. I consider it to be, by far, the best of the books that I have on tree identification and the one I reference when the others fail. The organization, descriptions, and pictures are great - there is no wasted space. The drawings are better than any other similar publication and are excellent for winter identification of hardwoods. There are other books that are more compact for field use but this is my favorite for trees that are difficult to identify in the northern U.S. My only sorrow is that there is not a book of equal quality that covers the entire U.S.

It seemingly has every type of tree in Canada. A little difficult in its use to find and identify for a novice like myself but it may get easier as I use it more. Also a little big for putting in a pack and carrying with you on a hike or canoe trip.
