President and founder of American Business Brokers & Advisors, Terry Monroe has been in the business of establishing, operating, and selling businesses for more than 30 years. As president of American Business Brokers & Advisors (ABBA), which he founded in 1999, he serves as a consultant for business buyers and sellers throughout the nation. His knowledge and expertise in multi-store operations and sales has led to many multimillion-dollar transactions. As an expert source in the convenience store industry, he writes a routine “Financial Insights” guest column for Convenience Store News and has been featured in CSP, CSP Independent, CSNews, Single Store Owner, NPN, and National Association of Convenience Store magazines.
Terry has been written about and featured in The Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur magazine, CNN Money, and USA Today. Over the years, his in-depth knowledge of business enterprising, franchising, financing, and acquisitions has generated over 500 successful transactions.
Terry has been an owner of 40 different businesses, which include 10 national franchises, a franchisor of businesses, and a retailer with more than 200 retail locations within the United States and Canada. The experience of taking his company public, his years of working as a vendor to Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and being an owner of restaurants and companies in media and petroleum production and distribution—to name but a few—have given Terry a thorough understanding of business growth and enterprise management, enabling him to provide and share his “expensive experience” with his clients.
A past musician of old rock ’n’ roll and an airplane pilot, when Terry is not working with his clients, he likes to seek adventure through trekking in the mountains. Terry has summited some of the world’s most famous peaks, including Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa twice, Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, and Mount Breithorn in Switzerland. His adventurous spirit has taken him river rafting, exploring rainforests in Costa Rica, and on hikes of the Inca Trail to the lost city of Machu Picchu.
Terry has volunteered in fund-raising efforts for the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, Hope for Haiti, Naples Community Hospital, and Duke University cancer research.
