The bulk of the text from this book, with many updates and corrections, has been made available as an online database: BoDD (Botanical Dermatology Database). It was launched in August 1994 with the internet address http://medusa.cf.ac.uk/ on a desktop computer (a Macintosh LC) in an office situated in the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST) — now Cardiff University. In January 1997, the website was migrated to the main University server and assigned a new internet address [ http://bodd.cf.ac.uk/ ]. A mirror site was launched in 2009 [ http://www.botanical-dermatology-database.info/ ], which in 2011 became the principal site when BoDD was removed from the Cardiff University server. An account of the history and planned development of BoDD has been published in the American Journal of Contact Dermatitis [ http://dx.doi.org/10.1053/ajcd.2000.8938 ]. Currently under construction, a significantly expanded version of BoDD incorporating information not only on plants and plant products injurious to the skin but also on plant materials used in the treatment of skin disease will, it is hoped, appear in due course as a new edition of the original book: Mitchell & Rook's Botanical Dermatology, 2nd edition, edited by Richard J. Schmidt and Christopher R. Lovell.
