I have reaad the novel, and saw both excellent movie versions of the same. Olivia de Havilland who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Catherine, and Jennifer Jason Lee who did the second successful version of the Novel. I am convinced , in my modest opinion that Henry James is one of the most gifted writers of all the time. With his enticing knowledge of character and the command of the language and extensive vocabulary makes of every turn and twist of the novel a perfect setting for a plot that maintains the reader focused in the story. I would recommend to anyone interested on period stories to have a delightful time by enjoying reading this story.
