About the author (2001)

Bryan A. Garner of Dallas teaches and publishes extensively on legal language, contractual drafting, and brief-writing. He is the author of many books, including A Dictionary of Modern Legal Usage (2d ed. 1995), The Elements of Legal Style (1991), and The Winning Brief (1999). He also serves as editor-in-chief of Black's Law Dictionary. Since 1991, Garner has served as president of LawProse, Inc., a company specializing in legal-writing and drafting workshops. He also teaches at Southern Methodist University School of Law.
